Chills exists because the best version of most songs is not the studio recording. It's the live version — where you hear the crowd, the room, the improvisation, the raw energy that makes the hair on your arms stand up.
Remarkable live performances are scattered across provider catalogues, mixed in with studio recordings, incomplete uploads, and recordings with wildly different quality. Finding the exact version you remember is still much harder than it should be.
Chills is designed around that search. Every track in the release catalogue is a live performance, curated for quality and emotional impact. It is audio-first because this is about closing your eyes and feeling the room.
Performances from SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Audius, the Internet Archive, and Phish.in in official players or permitted upstream audio. Relisten helps rank the strongest Archive sources; the original provider remains the source of playback and attribution.
Performances from YouTube for the long tail of live recordings. The official player may include provider advertising.
Most beta catalogue recordings use their provider's official player and link back to the original item. Chills may also host recordings supplied directly by artists, venues, labels, promoters, recordists, or other rights holders under written permission. Directly hosted performances are clearly identified and credited. Relisten-ranked recordings remain hosted by the Internet Archive, and Internet Archive and Phish.in recordings are used only on this free, non-commercial service. Audius recordings stream from the Audius API and retain their artist and original-track attribution. Provider playback, attribution, and rights controls remain intact.
Chills seeks no commercial gain from Grateful Dead or other trade-friendly recordings. Copyrights remain with the performers, writers, publishers, and other rights holders. Read how Relisten works and the Internet Archive's Grateful Dead collection policy. Access is removed or quarantined when an artist, rights holder, uploader, Relisten, or the Archive restricts it.
Every performance page includes direct links to support the artist via Bandcamp, merch stores, upcoming gigs, and tip jars.
